WINTER/SPRING 2008 - HUMANITIES

#045 INTRODUCTION TO THE CIVIL WAR ~ The civil war was the first modern war, the story of which is studied today in military academies throughout the world.  But its significance goes beyond the battlefield, where more Americans died than in all our other wars put together. Study the social, cultural, economic and political atmosphere that gave rise to the war.  Meet the fabulous characters that lived through it.  Hear their letters and poetry.  Talk about their inspiring achievements.  Ponder the grim horrors.  Consider the parallels with our own time and the rich lessons that history teaches.  (Instructor, Jeffrey Mayer)
