SPORTS WRITING IN AMERICA: THE RISE & FALL, 1918-2008 ~ a series of lectures by William N. (Bill) Wallace: Follow the evolution of sports writing from the time of Babe Ruth in Boston. Learn how sports writing became literature; how and why it attracts so many talented wordsmiths; and how it suffered due to the ravages of television and the digital revolution. Mr. Wallace will examine how the heroism, humor, innocence and deceit of sports reflect our culture and society. He will reflect upon the effect of changes in technology during his career and share the tools he used to advance from a hack to a prize-winning writer. He will recount the good times and the not so good times, as well as stories of the memorable personalities he encountered. Each session will include a Q & A at the end.
William N. (Bill) Wallace was a sportswriter for New York newspapers for
50 years, the last 35 for The New York Times. #054
